The colour guide collectors use
Clear tape — sourced directly from Japan (standard Japanese retail). Green tape — distributed in Southeast Asia, primarily Singapore & Malaysia. Yellow tape — Greater China region, primarily Hong Kong. Red tape — specific Southeast Asian territories, commonly associated with Thailand imports.
Are the cards inside different?
No. The product is the same Japanese-language print; the tape marks the distribution channel, not the cards. So tape colour is about provenance and origin-tracking, not a different or 'better' card.
Why it matters when you buy sealed
It's a quick authenticity and origin cross-check. If a listing claims one origin but the tape says another (e.g. 'Japan domestic' with SEA green tape), ask why. Some collectors also prefer a specific region's sealed product for resale consistency.
Treat it as a guide, not gospel
This colour→region mapping is a community convention compiled by collectors, and regional/distributor practice can vary or change. Use it as a signal, confirm origin with the seller, and don't pay a premium on tape colour alone.
