Desirability profile
Why the card is desirable — collectibility vs competitive use. This is a rating, not a price: the fair value above is set only by real comps.
The thesis — why it may be mispriced
The Monkey D. Luffy Manga Rare — the comic-panel parallel from OP09 Emperors in the New World, the 'undisputed king of the regular manga rares.' Same OP09-119 number as the ~$11 base Luffy, but it trades ~$1,400 raw and ~$5,000 PSA 10: the manga treatment is doing ~100× the base card, on the game's most-collected character.
- Character × parallel: Luffy — the demand anchor of the whole game — in the most prized style, the comic-panel manga rare. The clearest 'permanent grail' candidate in the set.
- The trap number: OP09-119 also covers a ~$11 base, ~$53 alt-arts and an Anniversary print. 'OP09-119 Luffy' alone is meaningless — the treatment is the price.
- Real liquidity — the strongest pillar here: the most liquid manga rare in the game, ~20 raw sales in a recent eBay window ($650–$1,709, median ~$1,400); PSA 10 ~$2,800–$6,000 (median ~$5,000). A four-figure card is only worth its comps if buyers keep showing up — these do.
- Fixed supply: low manga-rare pull rate and OP09 out of active print — effective supply can't grow, unless graded-10 population expands over time.
- Falsifiable thesis: appreciation holds only while (1) effective supply stays fixed, (2) Luffy demand stays strong, (3) the OP TCG market stays healthy, and (4) liquidity holds at these levels. Break one and the thesis breaks.
Biggest risk: A four-figure chase card is exposed to broad market sentiment — a cooling or 'bubble' correction hits the top end first, and speculative flipper money amplifies both directions. PSA 10 population can expand for years as people grade old raw copies, lifting effective supply and capping the ceiling. PSA 9s and mislabelled listings drag the low end of the graded data (sub-$1,000 'PSA 10' entries are usually 9s), so screen comps carefully. The same serial spans $11→$6,000, so mis-identifying the treatment is a costly error. Recent momentum is real but is not the thesis — anchor to whether the four conditions still hold.

What would change our mind
Revise higher if
- Sold-velocity rises / liquidity deepens for this exact variant
- PSA population stays flat (scarcity holds)
Revise lower if
- A reprint or a new serialized run is announced
- PSA population grows materially (scarcity erodes)
The ledger — permanent & accountable
No settled comp yet — the clock is running. This forecast is frozen and will resolve to a terminal verdict at the horizon. Never edited.
